Ductwork and Sheet Metal Machinery Financing

Mechanical contractors who fabricate their own ductwork control their schedules, their quality, and their margins. Instead of waiting on an outside shop, they cut, form, and seal fittings in house and ship them to the job the same week. That independence depends on machinery, and good sheet metal equipment isn't cheap.

Financing lets growing HVAC contractors bring fabrication in house, automate a manual shop, or add capacity when backlog piles up. Because this machinery holds value well, lenders often finance both new and used equipment.

    Plasma Tables

A CNC plasma table cuts duct fittings, flanges, and transitions straight from flat sheet using software that nests parts to waste as little metal as possible. Duct shops use them for elbows, offsets, and custom fittings that used to take hours of layout by hand. When buying, compare table size, torch quality, fume extraction, and the fitting library in the software, since the software drives most of the productivity. Used plasma tables are common and can be a smart buy, but confirm the software license transfers and the controller is still supported.

    Coil Lines

A coil line feeds sheet metal straight off the coil, then flattens, beads, notches, and shears it into ready to form blanks for rectangular duct. High volume duct shops use them to turn out straight duct sections with very little labor. Look at gauge range, coil capacity, whether the line includes a Pittsburgh lock or TDC flange former, and how it integrates with your estimating software. Coil lines take real floor space and a solid foundation, so plan the shop layout before you buy. Used lines can save serious money but may need rebuilding.

    Brakes and Shears

Brakes bend sheet metal into angles, while shears make straight cuts. A duct shop might run a hand brake for quick jobs, a box and pan brake for fittings, and a hydraulic or CNC press brake for heavy gauge work. Power shears cut full sheets cleanly and quickly. When buying, compare length and gauge capacity, back gauge accuracy, and safety guarding. Brakes and shears last a long time with care, so quality used machines are widely available and often finance well.

    Seamers and Rollers

Seamers and lock formers roll the edges of duct panels so they lock together, including Pittsburgh locks, snap locks, and standing seams. Rollers, sometimes called slip rolls, curve sheet into round and oval duct. Spiral duct machines take this further, forming continuous round pipe from coil. Contractors should match profiles to the duct styles they build most, check changeover time between gauges, and consider noise and floor space. Many shops start with a used lock former and upgrade to a spiral machine as volume grows.

Why Finance Sheet Metal Machinery Instead of Paying Cash

Fabrication equipment can pay for itself through lower labor costs and faster turnaround, but it takes time to earn back the investment. Financing lets the machine start producing revenue while you pay for it.

It also preserves cash for materials and payroll, which matter most when you win a large project. Keeping your credit lines open helps you handle retainage and slow paying general contractors. New and used equipment may qualify for Section 179 deductions; check with your tax professional.

What Your Financing Can Include

Depending on the lender, sheet metal machinery financing may cover:

  • Delivery, rigging, and machine setup
  • Fitting software, nesting software, and design licenses
  • Fume extraction and dust collection for plasma cutting
  • Operator training
  • Electrical upgrades, air compressors, and foundation work
  • Tooling, dies, and spare parts packages

Programs That Work Well for Sheet Metal Machinery

New Business or Established, We Can Help

Starting a duct fabrication shop or adding one to your contracting business? Equipment financing is available from day one, even for startups. Established shops can finance upgrades and expansions. What You'll Need

Requests under $150K, such as a used plasma table or brake, can often be approved on the application alone. Coil lines and full shop setups may call for financial statements. Funding can often finalize with just a driver's license and the equipment invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have a question?

Talk to a real person. We're happy to walk you through your options.

Can I finance used sheet metal machinery from an auction or private seller?

Many lenders finance used machinery, including private party and auction purchases, when the equipment's condition and value can be verified. Share the listing and we'll match you with lenders that work with used equipment.

Does financing cover plasma table software?

Often, yes. Fitting and nesting software is essential to a plasma table, and many lenders include it in the financed amount along with training.

Can machinery I already own help my request?

Often, yes. Equipment you own free and clear can strengthen a new financing request, and there are structures that put that equity to work. Tell us what's on your floor and we'll look at the options with you.

I'm a new contractor. Should I buy a coil line right away?

Most new shops start with a plasma table, brake, shear, and lock former, then add a coil line once volume justifies it. Equipment financing is available from day one, so you can scale up as your backlog grows.
