3D Tomosynthesis
Digital breast tomosynthesis takes a series of low dose images from different angles and builds a layered view of the breast. Many centers now offer it as their standard screening exam. When comparing systems, look at scan time, reading workstation requirements, image storage needs, and whether the unit supports synthesized 2D images. Tomosynthesis studies create much larger files than 2D, so plan for storage and network upgrades as part of the project. Some existing 2D units can be upgraded to 3D, which may cost less than a new system.
